Why Go Eco?
For some people the reasons are obvious. If you’re not sure here are a few points we think are particularly important:
Reduced Environmental Impact
- Eco-friendly food packaging products are considered to be more ‘sustainable’. Sustainable food packaging has a lower environmental impact, generally due to the materials used. For example, where papers are sourced from ‘sustainable forest sources’, this means that the trees cut down to produce the paper are replanted. Trees and plants are renewable resources therefore as long as the process is managed sustainably, they will not become depleted.
- As its description suggests, disposable food packaging is thrown away thereby creating waste. Eco-friendly disposable food packaging however can help to minimise the amount of this waste which is sent to landfill where it can sit for hundreds of years without breaking down. Recyclable, biodegradable and compostable materials are used to manufacture Green Gate’s bio packaging therefore most of it can be diverted away from landfill and re-enter the production cycle to be used again. You only need to look at the devastating impact that poorly managed non-biodegradable plastic waste is having on our oceans to appreciate the importance of this issue.
- It is now widely accepted that Global Warming and Climate Change are taking place as a result of increased levels of atmospheric CO2. This is why we are urged to reduce our individual ‘Carbon Footprints’. Choosing eco-friendly disposable packaging is one way to achieve this. For example, Green Gate’s biodegradable food packaging products which are made from Ingeo PLA are manufactured using less energy than is required for traditional oil-based plastic products. This means that less CO2 is released in the manufacturing process.
Demonstrate to your Customers your loyalty to the Environment and they will demonstrate their loyalty to you…
- Give your customers something interesting to talk about and remember you by. Switching to eco-friendly food packaging commands respect and loyalty from customers which will keep them coming back for more!
- Using eco-friendly food packaging could also save more money! From 2009 landfill taxes are increasing by £8 per tonne EACH year until at least 2013 incentivising businesses to find alternative methods of waste management such as recycling and composting. Switch to environmentally friendly food packaging to take advantage of these cost savings.
